Written by City Editor

Australian performer Isaiah Firebrace has sung his way into the 62nd Eurovision Song Contest grand-final.

The 17-year-old X-factor winner charmed European juries and worldwide audiences with his performance of ‘Don’t Come Easy’.

Isaiah grabbed the eighth slot in the finals despite missing a key note at the climax of his song.

Sweden and Portugal also gave strong performances, making it through to the final round and are anticipated to threaten hot competition favourite Francesco Gabbani from Italy.

The ‘Big Five’ of the contest- Italy, France, Spain, the UK and Germany, automatically qualified for the final stage, alongside host country Ukraine.

It is only Australia’s third year in the global song contest, with predecessor Dami Im placing as runner-up in the competition last year.

Isaiah said he “can’t wait to smash it” in the grand final.

He will face off against the top 20 countries in the final stage of the competition this Sunday.
