As Fashion Month kicks off in New York City today, young Australian designers are reminded just how difficult it is to break into the international market.

Over the next month, runways will travel from New York to London, then Milan and Paris, missing Australian capitals.

While it’s challenging for young designers to make their mark in the industry, because of the distance between Australia and other major fashion capitals, it’s not impossible.

Brands such as Dion Lee, Zimmerman and Strateas Carlucci have successfully taken their designs from Australia to runways all over the world.

The key is gaining the right opportunity.

We recently spoke to young designers, Emily Moszkowicz and Jayden Trifunovic, about how Australian events such as Melbourne Spring Fashion Week’s Emerging Collective Runway, help designers break into the industry.
