Batten down – that’s the message from the Bureau of Meteorology as parts of Melbourne are forecast to receive more than a month’s rain in one day today; Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has urged Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard to allow Craig Thomson to quit parliament, for the sake of his personal welfare; Burma’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi will visit Bangkok next week on her first trip overseas in more than two decades; and a soft drink can with the word “bomb” on it forces an Air Mauritius plane to land at Melbourne airport.
