Elio Celotto has today slammed the racing industry’s indifferent outlook towards casualties in jumps racing, speaking out before a weeklong demonstration in Warrnambool this week.

Peppe Cavalieri reports.

The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses will converge on Warrnambool’s May Racing Carnival tomorrow, ahead of Thursday’s Grand Annual Steeplechase. Campaign Manager Elio Celotto says it’s up to them to strengthen the public’s knowledge of such an inhumane treatment of animals. “If it wasn’t for our presence there, these incidences would be hardly known about. The racing industry does everything in its power to try and prevent any bad publicity, and we’re there to draw attention to it, because we believe that jumps racing can’t be made safe.” Mr Celotto says with a new Premier at the helm, it’s only a matter of time before jumps racing in Victoria is banned. Peppe Cavalieri, City Journal News.”
