Show them the money: can funding Australian sport get results?

Australia’s recent sub-par performances on the international sporting stage have led to calls for bigger and better investment in sports development.

Other countries, such as China and Russia, are pouring money into their national athletes and it’s doing wonders for their sporting glory.

But Australia’s record hasn’t been so good.

In an effort to return to the podium and wave our national flag, the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is implementing the Winning Edge, its latest 10-year game plan.

Emma Watson and Kai Wong meet two soccer teams who compete at different levels, but both rely on sports funding to survive.

They ask how Australia should invest money in sport and whether our eyes are focused in the right direction.
