A Victorian science professor says Australia should train its scientists and mathematicians to become teachers to overcome a shortage of qualified maths teachers.

On the International Day of the Girl, a Plan International survey has found 91 per cent of Australian girls and young women want to become leaders on social issues.

There are growing concerns there may be a link between mental health and gambling and advocates are calling for a royal commission into the industry.
