Each year in April Australia marks Youth Homelessness Matters Day across the country.

Matt Dawson reports.

Minister for Homelessness Mark Arbib says many Australians don’t understand the nature and spread of homelessness in Australia. Senator Arbib is raising awareness for youth homelessness today, as it is the nationwide Youth Homelessness Matters day. The day aims to raise awareness for the over fifty thousand youth homeless in Australia comprising not just of rough sleepers but also people of no fixed address. “If you don’t act early, those young people who are temporarily homeless can, over time, end up being long term homeless and end up on the street.”
