Federal Election 2019

Childcare may sway Corangamite families

Written by Christina Karras

The Morrison government’s hopes the Federal Childcare Subsidy will find electoral traction in Corangamite, it’s most marginal seat.

The $2.5 billion reform delivered some low and middle income families in the Corangamite electorate up to $8,000 a year in savings.

This reform appears to have a pull in Corangamite, with the largest proportion of the electorate consisting of two parent families with young children.

This initiative provides rebates to some families for up to 85 per cent of daily childcare costs, however in October last year, Labor also proposed new childcare support.

The opposition has also made promises on this front. It’s promised free or subsidised preschool for children as young as three, if Labor wins government at the next election.

Given Conrangmite is the Governments most marginal seat in the country, education could be vital in Sarah Henderson’s hopes to retain the position.
