Both sides of politics are pledging roads in a bid to sway voters in this year’s federal election.
The Federal Government has pledged $10 million to relieve congestion through the Main Road-Fitzsimons Lane corridor in the Menzies electorate.
The proposed plan will see the installation of traffic lights at major intersections and the removal of bus lanes, which the federal government claims could cut travel times by up to 50 per cent.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the scheme will also create more jobs.
The government says it has surveys that prove the local constituents have long been concerned about congestion; a point the local member, Kevin Andrews will be highlighting in the lead-up to the election.
On the Labor side, the Victorian Labor Government says its proposed plans for the North East Link will give commuters a long-term solution to the traffic headaches, with the project taking 10,000 vehicles a day off the roads.
