Federal Election 2019

The Electorate of Menzies (In Brief)

Electorate: Menzies
Held by: Kevin Andrews (Liberal)
Swing: -3.9%
Margin: 10.6%

Key Comments: Menzies is considered a very safe Liberal seat, having always been held by the party. Kevin Andrews has held the seat since 1991 and is the government’s longest continuously serving minister. In 2018, the electorate was redrawn. Menzies has lost Croydon North, Croydon Hills and parts of Warranwood. From the Labor seat of Jagajaga, they have gained Research, Kangaroo Ground, North Warrandyte and parts of Eltham. The ABC estimates that these changes have weakened the Liberal party’s hold over the electorate, though they are likely to keep it.

Other points:

– Has always been a liberal seat
– Named after Robert Menzies, Australia’s longest serving prime-minister
– Kevin Andrews won the 2016 election, 60.6% to Adam Runell 39.4% (Labor).
– Stella Yee is a candidate for Menzies (Labor).
– Crosses the Yarra for the first time, gaining areas east of Ryans Road from Jagajaga, including Research, Kangaroo Ground, North Warrandyte and parts of Eltham.
– Loses Croydon North, Croydon Hills and parts of Warranwood to Deakin.
