What is “normal” anyway?

Today young researchers are at the frontier of science, providing new and fresh ways of looking at mental health disorders. Anita Dharan of Swinburne university is one of these young researchers pushing the boundaries of modern science. Her research into autism and schizophrenia disorders has led her to believe that issues surrounding mental health, in some cases, are the product of societal perceptions.

The notion of “normality” can have a significant influence on the way we view mental health issues. What young researchers have found is that disorders such as autism and schizophrenia may be the same disorder, on the same spectrum, and may not be “abnormal” at all. So ask yourself, what is “normal” anyway?
