15 August 2015: North Korea will change its time

It has been 70 years since Korea was under Japanese rule.

August 15 is known as “Victory over Japan Day” by many throughout the world, predominately those in the UK. August 15, 1945 was the official day that the Japanese officially surrendered in WWII, subsequently ending it.

North Korea sets its clocks back by half an hour on August 15 – the standard time that was initially adopted by Korea before they were annexed by the Japanese. North Korea will change to “Pyongyang Time”, which will be 8.5 hours ahead of UTC.
