Melbourne’s peri-urban areas and green wedges are under continuing pressure from development, despite holding key natural resources and values for Victoria. Planning and policies are entrenched in both the history and future of these areas. The relevant history goes back to the very beginnings of Melbourne, on unceded Kulin Nation land. As Melbourne grows, the urban spread can spill into agricultural land, potentially making the state less resilient to future crises such as a pandemic.
