Community station facing survival battle after legal action

Geelong’s only community radio station fears rising legal costs could force it to close after being sued for defamation by high-profile former mayor Darryn Lyons.

‘94.7 The Pulse’ has apologised for the on-air comments by former host Greg McHenry. But the court action is continuing, and the station has launched a public fundraiser in a bid to survive.

Geelong’s former mayor Darryn Lyons is suing the city’s only community radio station, over allegedly defamatory comments made on air by a former host last year. The not-for-profit community station could be forced to shut its doors forever, if legal costs continue to grow.
