Council inundated with objections over St Kilda church planning move

Written by Lisa Divissi

A battle is underway to save St Kilda’s oldest surviving church, built between 1854 and 1857.

Despite crowdfunding initiatives and a $40,000 heritage grant, parishioners of St Kilda’s Christ Church have struggled to raise the $4.5 million needed for restoration.

Now a rescue deal has been struck between the church and a private business, but it requires a playground to be replaced by a parking lot…sparking fierce local opposition.
