A social media feud has erupted between Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie and X owner Elon Musk.
It marks the latest development in the ongoing controversy between Australia and Mr Musk, who has been criticised for his refusal to remove graphic footage of the Bondi Stabbings on his platform.
Ms Lambie deleted her X account yesterday and called upon members of Parliament to do the same. In response, Mr Musk called Ms Lambie an “enemy of the people of Australia”.
Mr Musk said Australians “want the truth” and his platform was “the only one standing up for their rights”. He continued, writing Ms Lambie “has utter contempt for the Australian people”.
Ms Lambie hit back, telling Sky News yesterday called Mr Musk was a “social media knob” who was “creating hatred”.
“He has absolutely no social conscience,” she said. “Someone like that should be in jail and the key be thrown away”.
Both the government and the Coalition have showed support for tougher sanctions on X.
On April 15, the eSafety Commissioner won an interim injunction against X to hide footage of an alleged stabbing at the Christ the Good Shephard Church, while Prime Minister Anthony Albanese labelled Mr Musk an “arrogant billionaire”.
