With social media ruling the lives of Melbournians we have seen a new interest in spiritual journeys and astrology, but what exactly draws people to these things?
Although the use of crystals has been practiced across many cultures for thousands of years, it is common to see people of all ages sporting rings with varying crystals, a Nazar amulet, or simply carrying around a notebook with their daily affirmations.
As of this month, Instagram has over 25 million posts under #crystals, and #astrology has over 43 billion views on TikTok, a video sharing platform which was launched in 2016.
With a noticeable spike of interest in astrology over the last decade, it is clear that the constant use of social media in people’s lives makes it easier to research and find topics that are new to them.
Sheree Broome, 43, has been practicing with crystals for 6 years now while exploring tarot for a further 20 years.
“I think that people are drawn towards tarot for guidance in their life, receive messages or advice and to help predict their future,” she said.
In order to broaden her knowledge and overcome boredom during lockdown, Sheree shared that she has completed courses in psychic development, mediumship and tarot. While doing these courses she was also able to meet other like-minded people in her classes on zoom and via Facebook.
With tarot being a much more time-consuming and focused task, Sheree has found ways to incorporate crystals into her everyday life. She carries various crystals in a small pouch whenever she leaves the house as well as keeping them around her coastal home.
“I use my crystals daily,” she said, going on to share that she chooses them based on which crystals or gems she is gravitated to.
In using her crystals and gems so often, it is important for Sheree to cleanse and charge all of her crystals to get rid of any negative energy they may have absorbed.
Sheree shared this process by saying, “I cleanse my crystals every full moon under the moon light to drain them of any negativity”.
So, what made Sheree choose to explore her spirituality and astrology?
“I have always had a sense of knowing certain things without fully understanding them first, which eventually led me on my path to build a relationship with spirit and getting to know my higher self,” she explained.
In hearing this, it is clear that everyone’s journey and pathway towards exploring spirituality and astrology is completely unique and individual to the person.
