‘Walking Basketball’ hitting its stride in Bulleen

Written by Jonathon Magrath

Walking Basketball, the latest innovation from Basketball Victoria, is providing inactive and slightly active people with a fun and social way to stay physically active.

The program has been growing throughout Victoria and the Bulleen Boomers Basketball Club is the latest to offer Walking Basketball.

Bulleen Boomers General Manager Tom Hall said the target demographic of the program had been previously neglected.

“The more people you’ve got involved in the club … the more relevant you are to the community and the more good you can do,” he said.

Inclusion Officer at Basketball Victoria Kyle McMullan said the program is “quite flexible and can be great for people with a disability, people recovering from injury and older adults that might not be able to run up and down the court for domestic basketball”.

Jonathon Magrath reports on how this program is being implemented.
