The Victorian hospitality industry is facing a range of possible tough new government penalties after a series of high-profile wage theft cases.
But some believe a harsh legislative response may not be needed, given the introduction of a platform that could prevent industry wage theft altogether.

The hospitality industry has been in the spotlight recently due to various high-profile wage theft cases, with the Fair Work Ombudsman declaring they have had to pay back millions of dollars to workers. In response, the Andrews Government proposed legislation that could mean fines of up to $950,000, and potential jail times for business’ if they fail to meet minimum wage standards.
