7 top attractions at Federation Square

Federation Square is one of the most iconic spots in Melbourne. A hub for culture, art, food and drink, there’s no shortage of things to do in Fed Square all year ‘round.

   1. ACMI

The Australian Centre for Moving Image, ACMI for short, is a vibrant hub of culture in Melbourne.

Featuring a vast and varied main gallery, the Screen World, and two separate galleries that are frequently taken over by popular properties and artists, ACMI hosts a variety of different moving image styles and concepts.

ACMI also features easy access for school groups, providing fun for all ages.

 2. Flinders Street Station 

Perhaps the most recognizable structure in Melbourne, the facade of Flinders Street Station is an attraction of its own.

Whether you are arriving on one of its platforms or admiring the structure from afar, Flinders Street Station is on a plane of his own in terms of train stations in Australia.

The views you get of the station from Federation Square are incredible, as you can sit back relax and enjoy its amazing architecture.

 3. Bars

Many Australians love a drink.

So nothing is better than a good beer with a view, which is exactly what you can find at the numerous venues surrounding Fed Square.

With incredible spots such as the rooftop at the Transit bar, which gives you an excellent view of the city, or the garden at BeerDeluxe, the precinct offers a variety of options for a good night out on the town.

 4. Dining

A great feature of Federation Square is the numerous dining spots on offer around the precinct.

With different cuisines ranging from Italian to Chinese, everybody will find something to tickle their fancy at Federation Square.

There are also a number of family-friendly options in the area, with people of all ages able to enjoy the culinary delights on offer.

Along with the excellent quality of food, all the restaurants offer stunning views of Melbourne either facing towards the picturesque Yarra River or the hustle and bustle of the CBD.

  5. Facade Screen & Spotlight Stage

Federation Square frequently hosts free, public-access events and stage shows on its screen and stage, located in the main square.

Sporting matches are frequently displayed on the big screen, with AFLW matches being the latest to feature.

Live music and performances are also hosted in the square, with a variety of performance styles, including music, acrobatics, children’s shows and comedy.

  6. Yarra River

A rich part of the history of Melbourne, the Yarra River precinct has become one of the most vibrant areas within the CBD.

Situated a stone’s throw away from the centre of Federation Square, the river is home to a number of different exciting activities.

You can also follow the river down to Southbank, where you can find a host of exciting restaurants and the world renowned Crown entertainment complex.

Whether it be a boat ride through the city or a drink on its edge, the river is an integral part of the appeal of Federation Square and something all tourists must explore.

  7. Pedestrian trail to major stadiums

Melbourne’s biggest sporting and entertainment events are right on the doorstep of Federation Square.

Take a short walk down to AAMI Park, Rod Laver Arena, the MCG and more.

You can look forward to AFL, AFLW, soccer, tennis, Rugby League and Rugby Union matches, as well as live music performances from home-grown talent and international superstars.
