Your Say!

Have your say: Are we slaves to technology?

Although technology does rule our everyday lives, and I, myself, feel rather dependent on it, I don’t see why this has to be the case. Technology is advancing at such a high rate - it seems impossible to keep completely in front of trends.
Naomi Eaton, aged 19. Student at RMIT University - Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning.

I am a slave to technology, in that my everyday life relies on technology, but I don’t see myself disadvantaged if I don’t keep up with the latest and greatest of models. I don’t mind having an old phone and not owning an iPad - the cost of products and how quickly they become obsolete makes them not worth trying to keep up with.
Gabrielle Hill, aged 19. Student at University of Melbourne - Bachelor of Biomedicine.

I don’t believe people are slaves to technology, or at least they don’t want to admit they are. Our over reliance on technology, such as phones and computers, would make it impossible to function if it were ever taken away.
Allan Bateman, aged 20. Duty Manager at Pakenham Hotel.

Of course we are, just look around the tram tomorrow and observe the iPhone zombies. Although we would like to think we don’t need to have the latest phone or computer, we almost have to so we can keep up with software changes or processing speeds. Smart tech heads creating these technologies are the problem, really.
Tayla Wilson, aged 20. Student at RMIT University - Bachelor of Social Work/Psychology.

I am definitely a slave to technology, but who isn't these days? Everything is digital. We are living in a time where networking through media is considered more preferable than meeting face to face! I now find myself getting more excited about receiving a letter in the mail as opposed to an email.
Sarah Guganovic, aged 19. Student at Latrobe University - Bachelor of Media.
